On 3 July 2025, the Poplar campus of New City College was alive with celebration as students, families and staff gathered to recognise outstanding achievement at the Attlee A Level Academy. Foundation Trustee Jo Roundell Greene, granddaughter of Clement Attlee, joined the Academy team, including Mohon Miah, Senior Curriculum Manager for A Level Humanities, to honour students as they step forward into university and future careers.
The evening also marked a major milestone in the Foundation’s work to widen opportunity: the awarding of the Attlee Foundation university bursaries, created to ease the financial pressures that can hold talented students back. Each bursary provides £5,000 per student, paid across three years of higher education, supporting essentials such as travel, accommodation, laptops and course materials.
This year’s bursaries were awarded to five exceptional students who combined strong academic performance with excellent attendance, a meaningful contribution to college life, and a compelling written reflection on Attlee’s legacy and impact on social reform.
