On 7 November 2025, two of our Trustees, Jo Roundell Greene and Laetitia Lucy, visited Haileybury, Clement Attlee’s former school. The visit was organised by the Haileybury Society and Sam Koon, Director of Teaching and Learning. Jo and Laetitia were given an Attlee-themed tour taking in the Library, Chapel, Pavilion and Dining Hall, followed by a pupil-led visit to Lawrence House, and time in the archives exploring Attlee material, including photographs and letters.

They also visited The Attlee Oak, planted on 21 September 1995 by Lady Felicity Harwood (Attlee’s daughter) to mark the 50th anniversary of his appointment as Prime Minister, and presented by The Haileybury Society.

Attlee’s presence at Haileybury is not only historical. It is embedded in the school’s life today, from named spaces such as the Attlee Room (used for public lectures, including the Attlee Memorial Lecture) to the Haileybury Society’s active support for the Attlee Foundation, including fundraising to help sponsor a university bursary.
